Permafrost: Surviving a Frozen World in Early Access

27 Sep 2026  ·  1 mins read

Permafrost is a story-driven survival sandbox set in a frozen, post-apocalyptic world. It is the first big project from Polish studio SpaceRocket Games, published by Toplitz Productions, and it arrives on PC in Early Access on 9 October 2026 after a short delay from August.

Life in the Deep Freeze

According to preview material, a cataclysm has left Earth buried under ice and snow. Players must find shelter, scavenge supplies, craft tools and keep warm. Temperature affects the character, so staying warm is a central part of the experience.

Survival Systems

The game uses a third-person view and familiar survival mechanics. Players grow food, set animal traps, build shelters and fight wildlife or hostile factions. A dog companion travels with the player, and the developers say they want a grounded, tense experience built on silence and scarcity rather than constant gunfire.

Playing With Friends

Permafrost can be played solo or in co-op with up to four players. Working together to share supplies and defend a base is a big part of the appeal in this genre.

Early Access

The game launches on Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store, and runs on Unreal Engine 5. The developer has said the price is likely to rise before the full 1.0 release, and that features will keep developing during Early Access.

Final Thoughts

Permafrost enters a crowded survival genre with a strong setting and a focus on story and atmosphere. Players who enjoy cold, tense survival should keep it on their radar.
