Gears of War: E-Day – Marcus and Dom Return on Emergence Day

Gears of War: E-Day takes the series back to the moment everything changed. Developed by The Coalition, this prequel is set fourteen years before the original game and follows a young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde erupts from beneath the surface of Sera.
An Origin Story
E-Day centres on Emergence Day itself, the point where the Locust first attack in force. Because it is a prequel, the tone is different from the counter-offensive stories players know. The war is being lost, the enemy is not yet understood, and the heroes are still finding their feet.
Gritty and Heavy Combat
The Coalition has described a rougher, war-film inspired look, with shakier cameras and grittier visuals. The core third-person cover shooting keeps its trademark weight, while added fluidity aims to make fights feel more dynamic. E-holes let enemies burst from the ground at almost any moment, which should keep encounters unpredictable.
Ways to Play
The campaign can be played solo, in two-player split-screen on console, or with up to four players online. Alongside it are a reimagined Horde mode and a refined Versus experience, giving fans reasons to keep playing after the story ends.

Launch Details
The game is dated for 6 October 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it is an Xbox console exclusive. It is also available through Game Pass, which will make it easy for many players to try.
Final Thoughts
Gears of War: E-Day arrives with a clear promise: show how the war began and why Marcus and Dom matter. For longtime fans of cover shooters and cooperative play, it is one of the biggest releases of the year.
